Female hair loss... due to stress?
I saw my primary care physician and brought up my recent hair loss concern. I have been losing more than the average 50 100 hairs per day. I am losing 100 from brushing alone Not to mention shampooing, conditioning, and drying. He tested my thyroid and everything came back normal. I am starting to get worried. Just running my hands through my hair and I will get 3 6 hairs almost every time. I am wondering if I should go see my dermatologist my doctor's recommendation . However, I am 85 % sure that the hair loss is due to stress job, ending of a relationship and possibly from my sudden stop of oral contraceptives. About 5 years ago, I lost about 2 3 of my hair. I went to a derm and she said it was stress and suggested I start Rogaine for women. It took 2 years for my hair to start looking normal again... which is why I'm so paranoid and concerned now. I would be devastated if that happened to me again. It was the hardest time of my life. Do I save myself the trip and money to see the dermatologist? Or should I go as a precaution? I would hate to hear the same thing that it's stress and it will stop on its own.Does anyone know of any products that truly work to combat hair loss? Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thyroid hair loss patterns?
Can a thyroid problem, such as hypothyroidism, cause hair loss in a pattern similar to male pattern baldness rather than just general thinning? I have hypothyroidism, and my hair has thinned a little all over the top, but there's a very noticeable spot in the back of my head where the hair naturally swirls where you can see my scalp quite clearly, and it seems my temple areas has receded though my widow's peak has barely seemed to move, maybe just a little.Up until I started taking thyroid medication a few years ago I now take levothyroxine, which i guess is the same thing as synthroid , my hair was so thick the hair dresser had to thin it out after she cut it. To do so now would be unthinkable.Edit Thank the three of you so far, and I am going to ask my doc about maybe switching the synthroid, but I really want to know if this condition or the meds can cause hair loss in a pattern that looks like MPB
Finasteride for hair loss and psoriasis?
I am wondering if anyone knows of GP's in Adelaide that are not so " old school" My boyfriend has some nasty psoriasis on his scalp and hair loss as well and has tried the usualprescription topical lotions creams etc,Elocon didn't do much, dithranol did nothing but stain pillows, Advantan made it worse.with advantan, psoriasis spots were inflamed, dark red, flaky skin turned a pus yellow colour.Sometimes while brushing hair it bled a little. He stopped using those and tried saw palmetto, zinc, T Gel and has had better results, also the acne is a little cleared up as well. All of those point to DHT so I want to know if a doctor out there understands this .... we both looked up finasteride and are aware of possible side effects libido etc and i'm happy ifit'll help clear it upany thoughts?thanksthanks nonich, i forgot to say he's used proactive, used it for 18 months
How much hair loss can I expect from taking Topamax?
I just started taking topamax for my migraines , but have already noticed more hair than usual falling out, and even quite a few hairs from my arms and legs as well. Not that I couldn't use some thinning of my hair anyway, I'm just wondering how much I can expect, or at least how much other people have experienced.Any personal experience?
Could my hair loss be caused by hormonal changes?
For the past month I've been loosing a lot of hair, and in the past few days it's gotten a lot worse. I run my fingers through my hair and come out with around 10 hairs. My mom is refusing to take me to the doctor because she's all like " It's not a big deal, you're just going through hormonal changes blah blah" However I know that it is a big deal, I'm loosing way more hair than I should be through out the day. Because she is refusing to take me to the doctor for it until I'm balding, I'm not really sure what to do. I'm a 14 year old girl, so yes, my body is probably having weird hormones, but could this really be causing my hair loss that keeps getting worse?

Do you think hair loss problem will go away after I do this?
I have a skin problem Ichthyosis, which means I have extremely dry skin during Winter and in dry climates. I used to live in a tropical country and my skin and hair was normal. Then I moved to Russia and I started to have serious problems with dry skin and experienced hair loss. I am 21. My question is...will my hair grow again if I live in a humid and hot climate?During Summer time some of my hair grows back..I see small hairs coming up. Hair on my legs for example grew back after I lived in a cold climate. So why do some of you say no? Explain please.During Summer time some of my hair grows back..I see small hairs coming up. Why do some medications cause hair loss?
I m taking Asacol, medication from UC, for two month. Recently my hair started to fall out a lot. I suspect it is from the medication. I want to know why some medications can cause hair loss. Do they wash out some important elements or something else? Also is there any way to prevent his?

I have read that changes in estrogen can cause hair loss, but i have had friends, and my husband, notice and comment on how it is starting to look bad.Is there something I can do to prevent this??
Hair loss and medicines?
My friend started losing her hair in November 2008. This wasn't bald patches, but general hairloss all over. She had been Lansoprazole 30mg tablets for about 2 years with no problems. She stopped using them for 11 months, in case the problem with her hair resulted from the tablets, but her hair continued to fall out throughout these months. In October 2009, she began to use the tablets again. 3 weeks later, her hair ceased falling out for 6 months, but now, has again started to fall out again in the last 3 months May 2010 . Could the tablets have anything to do with this, as it is a rare side effect of them? Also, she saw a doctor in February 2009. She was told that she suffers from chronic telogen effluvium related to nutritional problems and low iron. After taking iron supplements, her iron levels have become better. Her ferritin is now 50 mg, a rise from 21. Could the hair loss still be related to iron deficiency, despite being higher? An answer to both of these questions would be useful. By the way, she is 49.
